
The Stanford Medical Youth Science Program (SMYSP) is an online enrichment program for students from low-income, underrepresented backgrounds. Over five weeks, participants engage in faculty lectures, professional development workshops, virtual networking events, and a public health disparities research project. During the program and beyond, participants are mentored by faculty, health professionals, and college students on preparing for college, navigating careers in medicine, and becoming a leader today.

All students are offered a full scholarship for an intense and rewarding educational experience.
Participate in exciting lectures in medicine, public health, and health science with Stanford faculty.
Attend professional development workshops on topics such as public health research methods, health advocacy, academic and career planning, and public speaking.
Participants engage in a health disparities group research project to improve health and health access in all communities. Examples of research projects include addressing racial inequities in COVID-19 health outcomes, examining low birth outcomes for African American mothers, and combatting language barriers in hospital settings.
Special Skills/ Requirements:
Students must be living in the U.S. and must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with a green card in order to apply.
Have demonstrated an interest in science and have received a B-average in some of your science classes.
Have demonstrated an interest in medicine and/or health-related careers and show maturity, intelligence, initiative, and curiosity about the world around you.

Teacher Recommendations: require two (2) recommendations to be included with your application. One recommendation should come from a science, math, engineering, or computer science teacher. The second recommendation should come from a counselor, principal, or mentor (which can include another teacher).
